LoCo for Field Hockey

In 2014 my high school did not offer field hockey as a varsity sport.  Along with my Mom and our entire field hockey community, we asked the school board to add field hockey to expand athletic opportunities for all girls in our county and so girls like me would have the opportunity to represent their high school playing the sport we love.

This process taught me about Title IX and what it means, how to work with adults and politicians, how to seek help, and most importantly taught me to work for what I believe.  Our county offered field hockey as a varsity sport beginning in 2016, and in 2017 when I became a freshman, I was able to play for my high school.  See the link to my story on the Women's Sports Foundation's website:  https://www.womenssportsfoundation.org/education/title-ix-success-story-leveling-the-playing-field-with-field-hockey/

My Mom and I were invited to the 45th Anniversary Celebration of Title IX in NYC and to share our story of success and what Title IX means to us.  It was a great experience meeting founder of The Women's Sports Foundation and icon for gender equity in sports-Billie Jean King, along with many other influential women in sport.

Honored to meet Billie Jean King, founder of the Women's Sports Foundation, who supported our effort of getting field hockey in our high schools.
